Ebru Esra is an emerging figurative oil painter from Istanbul, living and working in Seattle.
Initially trained as an actor, Esra is interested in creating “big-picture” narratives on her canvases. Her work depicts figures brought to life from an autobiographical jumping off point, where she blurs the lines between reality and fiction. Situations that feel like possibilities or memories are at the core of her work. Embracing different painting genres and focusing on the themes of isolation, creativity and survival, her figures externalize the intensity of physical sensations, psychological states and human struggles.
In 2009, Esra received her BFA in Acting with a minor in Playwriting at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. In 2016 & 2017 she studied Classical Figure Painting at The Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy.
